Fishing has always been a very important part of my life. Some of my first memories are of standing on the edge of a pond with a bamboo pole, no reel, and some braided line tied to the end of the pole. Attached was a round, red and white bobber, a hook, and a splitshot.
With age and experience, I would like to think I have gotten to be a better angler. Some of my recent fishing seasons have, in fact, been some of my most successful.

The concept of “matching the hatch” when fishing refers to using lures that are similar in color to the forage that game fish are feeding on. Matching the hatch can be important when bass fishing. Here are three examples from my fishing last summer.

When we go fishing, we do all that we can to put the odds in our favor of having a fish bite our bait. Sometimes all we have to do to get a fish to bite our bait is put that bait near a fish. Other times it’s necessary to do something a little out-of-the-ordinary, such as imparting a slightly different action on the lure that is being used.
Fishin’ with Frisch, producers of the award-winning Fishing the Midwest TV series, announced today an agreement with MIDCO SPORTS, headquartered in Sioux Falls (SD). The agreement will add Fishing the Midwest TV episodes to the provider’s expansive list of leading regional sports programming. Fishing the Midwest will premiere on MIDCO SPORTS on January 18, 2026, with weekly airings at 9:30 am on Sundays with re-airs to occur during the following week as well.
