It’s New Year’s Day as I write this and must say that I am already very excited for the coming 2026 open water fishing season, particularly as it relates to bass fishing! When we go fishing, we do all that we can to put the odds in our favor of having a fish bite our bait. Sometimes all we have to do to get a fish to bite our bait is put that bait near a fish. Other times it’s necessary to do something a little out-of-the-ordinary, such as imparting a slightly different action on the lure that is being used.
Fishin’ with Frisch, producers of the award-winning Fishing the Midwest TV series, announced today an agreement with MIDCO SPORTS, headquartered in Sioux Falls (SD). The agreement will add Fishing the Midwest TV episodes to the provider’s expansive list of leading regional sports programming. Fishing the Midwest will premiere on MIDCO SPORTS on January 18, 2026, with weekly airings at 9:30 am on Sundays with re-airs to occur during the following week as well.

When a person goes fishing, there are several decisions that need to be made. Where to go, when to go, who to go with, those thoughts all enter the picture. Then when we arrive at the body of water that we’ll be fishing, there’s more decisions. Should we chase bass, walleyes, panfish, or something else? What bait or lure should we start with?
The 2025 open water fishing season was a good one for this angler. Part of the reason it was good is because I made it a point to spend a vast majority of my free time fishing! Plus, my job as a TV show host keeps me on the water a lot for work. I am blessed to live where I live and do what I do!

I love catching crappies. Most of my crappie fishing comes in spring and summer. During spring nothing beats watching a slip bobber slowly descend when a hungry shallow water slab inhales a small jig. During summer, I love the “tick” I feel and the impending hookset when slowly retrieving a Mr. Crappie plastic along a weedline. This fall, however, I “stumbled” upon some big crappies and have had lots of fun.
