MY FAVORITE BAIT

When a person goes fishing, there are several decisions that need to be made. Where to go, when to go, who to go with, those thoughts all enter the picture. Then when we arrive at the body of water that we’ll be fishing, there’s more decisions. Should we chase bass, walleyes, panfish, or something else? What bait or lure should we start with?

My Best Season Yet

The 2025 open water fishing season was a good one for this angler. Part of the reason it was good is because I made it a point to spend a vast majority of my free time fishing! Plus, my job as a TV show host keeps me on the water a lot for work. I am blessed to live where I live and do what I do!

Conditioned Fish

By Bob Jensen There are several things that can determine how many fish we catch when we go fishing. Last Season Slabs

I love catching crappies. Most of my crappie fishing comes in spring and summer. During summer, I love the “tick” I feel and the impending hookset when slowly retrieving a Mr. Crappie plastic along a weedline. This fall, however, I “stumbled” upon some big crappies and have had lots of fun.

Trophy Walleye Fishing on Lake Oahe with Fishing the Midwest

Here at Fishing the Midwest, we’re very excited about fishing’s future for several reason. Here’s one of those reasons. Earlier this year, Fishing the Midwest television host Mike Frisch checked in at New Evarts Resort on Lake Oahe near Glenham, South Dakota to fish for walleyes. Not only did he fish for walleyes, he and his partner, area guide and New Evarts owner Gabe Outtrim, caught’em. Their biggest one weighed 11 pounds.

Late Fall Largemouth Bass Fishing: Bass on Deep Weed Edges

For this open water loving angler it’s hard to come to the realization that just a few days remain in the 2025 fishing season.  Rather than focus on what’s mostly in the past, however, I am choosing to stay focused on the future and what fishing days I have left.  For me, the last few open water fishing trips of the season probably will include largemouth bass.
